About

Introduction

I’m a self employed retoucher living in London. I’ve been retouching for a number of years and I’ve acquired an extensive working knowledge of photoshop.

We all know that Retouching gets a lot of bad press, but what people need to realise is that it’s ‘bad’ retouching that gets bad press and deservedly so. Retouching can take good Photography and make it great.

I’m not a Photographer, I’m a Retoucher. I believe Photography is an entirely separate discipline to Retouching. Just because you’re a Photographer, that doesn’t automatically mean you can (or even want to) retouch your own images. Indeed there are a lot of photographers out there that are quick to dismiss retouching. But I believe that Photoshop should be used to finish your photos not to fix them, therefore good photography is an essential starting point for me.

It seems these days that everyone has a knock off copy of Photoshop and thinks that they can become a retoucher, including a lot of photographers.

But Retouching is a art and good Retouching should be invisible. That means no blurring or smudging of pixels, no loss of detail. It takes a lot of patience and a good eye for detail and I’m here to provide that service.

When I’m not scibbling away at my Wacom i can usually be found on the PS3.

Background

I made the transition to digital art and design from a much more traditional hands-on art background. I’ve always had a passion for drawing and painting and I studied Art and Design at college. I passed the course with distinction and the ‘Student of the Year’ award and also received recognition and a certificate (including a cheque!) from the arts council in my area.

Although I rarely use a paintbrush these days, I believe my traditional art background has given me a distinct advantage in the digital arena.
